Digital Camera Buying Mistakes
Taking into consideration that digital cameras are one of the most preferred gadgets nowadays, they need to have all the specifications and features in order to enable perfection in taking photos. Therefore, before you go to the store to buy a digital camera, you should have in mind which mistakes to avoid when it comes to choosing some of numerous models offered at the market.
- Making a purchase of a camera without first testing it. Just like buying a car, you need a test drive in order to evaluate its features. The same thing goes with camera. Due to that, it is necessary to check how your new device works in different lightings and also to browse the camera's specifications. You can check this for yourself, but if you would rather shop online you should know that this option may not be available.
- Paying attention more to the appearance than the quality of pictures. Although design is an important feature of a digital camera, especially when they come in bright colors, it really shouldn’t be of your prime concern. Giving priority to color over megapixel and shutter speed just because the camera looks fabulous is not practical.
- Relying on megapixels. Even though it is an important camera feature, it isn't all about megapixels. It is true that the images will be clearer with higher megapixels, but other features such as zoom, the shutter speed, and the brightness settings should be taken into account. So, never judge only by the megapixels. It may seem strange to you that a 7-megapixel camera takes better pictures than a 12-megapixel camera, and it all has to do with adjusting the settings and using the camera wisely.
- Overlooking the warranty. Most digital camera models have warranty that lasts for a year. In some special cases and for bigger fees, they are extended up to three years. Read carefully the coverage of the warranty so that you have clear picture of the parts and services included. In addition, cameras are subject to wear and tear, so make sure to read up on the important stuff on the warranty card before you buy it.
- Cutting down on memory. The standard memory cards incorporated in camera are low. For that reason, be ready to upgrade the memory space to a memory card with higher capacity so as to store more pictures. Some users preserve the original memory card and change the settings into a lower megapixel to store the pictures. This is a big mistake because it totally defeats the purpose of having the high-megapixel camera in the first place.
- Buying a digital camera without first looking around. No matter how much you want to buy a camera that you've been staring at for months, you still need to hear somebody else’s opinion. It implies that the advantages and disadvantages of a particular model should be carefully looked through. Also, if the camera is on sale make sure to check if it is defective in a way, as it may be the first reason why it is on sale.
